Purpose

NCQA uses SMS text messaging solely to support multi-factor authentication (MFA), identity verification, account recovery, and account security. By providing your mobile phone number and enrolling in SMS-based MFA, you consent to receive SMS messages from NCQA for authentication and account security purposes.

SMS Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

When you enroll in SMS-based MFA, NCQA may collect and process limited information necessary to provide authentication and account security messaging, including:

  • Your mobile phone number
  • The date and time of authentication attempts
  • Information necessary to deliver one-time passcodes and security notifications
  • Account identifiers associated with your NCQA account

How We Use Your Information

NCQA uses your phone number and related authentication information to:

  • Deliver one-time MFA verification codes
  • Verify your identity when accessing NCQA systems and services
  • Support account recovery or other security-related actions
  • Provide account security notifications related to account access

Marketing and Promotional Use

NCQA does not use your mobile phone number collected for SMS-based MFA for marketing or promotional text messages. Consent to receive SMS authentication messages is not a condition of purchasing goods or services from NCQA.

Sharing of Information

NCQA does not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Phone numbers may be shared only with trusted service providers that support SMS delivery, identity verification, and authentication services on NCQA’s behalf. These service providers are subject to contractual confidentiality, privacy, and security requirements.

Carrier disclosure: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Data Security

NCQA maintains administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

Data Retention

NCQA retains phone numbers and authentication-related records only as long as necessary to support account security, operational requirements, legal obligations, and applicable records retention policies.

Your Choices

You may update or change your MFA method, subject to NCQA system requirements. Disabling SMS-based MFA may impact your ability to access certain NCQA systems and services if MFA is required for your account.

Consent to Receive Messages

By providing your mobile phone number and enrolling in SMS-based MFA, you agree to receive text messages from NCQA related to account authentication, identity verification, account recovery, and account security. You may opt-out of SMS-based MFA as described below.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on account activity and authentication needs. Messages are typically sent when:

  • Logging into a protected NCQA application
  • Verifying your identity
  • Completing account recovery or security-related actions
  • Responding to security-related account activity

Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply according to your wireless carrier plan. NCQA is not responsible for charges imposed by your mobile carrier.

Supported Carriers and Delivery

SMS delivery is dependent upon participating wireless carriers and network availability. NCQA does not guarantee message delivery or availability.

Opt-Out

You may reply STOP to opt out of SMS messages. Opting out will disable SMS-based multi-factor authentication and may affect your ability to access your account.

If SMS-based MFA is optional for your account, you may also discontinue SMS messages by contacting NCQA Support. If SMS-based MFA is required for access to certain services, opting out may prevent access to those services until another authentication method is configured.

Changes to These Terms

NCQA may update these Terms and this SMS Messaging Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
