NCQA Expands Prevalidation Program to Include PCSP

Program will provide more solutions for specialty practices to achieve recognition

March 30, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is expanding its prevalidation program to include products that support NCQA Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) Recognition. Previously, the program only supported NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) requirements for primary care.

NCQA’s Prevalidation program now evaluates electronic health record (EHR) systems, advanced registries, population health management tools and other related technology solutions to identify systems that align with PCMH and PCSP standard requirements. Organizations whose health care solutions align with standards receive prevalidated status.

How This Helps Practices

In seeking NCQA Recognition, primary care or specialty practices can use an organizations’ prevalidated status to identify solutions that will support them in meeting PCMH and PCSP factor-level scoring requirements. Practices know those systems align with their goal to achieve NCQA Recognition and can help them earn automatic credit, ease administrative burdens and save time.

NCQA PCMH Recognition is the most widely used PCMH evaluation program in the U.S. More than 11,000 NCQA-Recognized practices, representing more than 50,000 clinicians, are looking for technology vendors that align with the PCMH model of care. The NCQA PCSP Recognition program has recognized more than 100 practices, representing approximately 1,000 specialty clinicians.

Twenty-five organizations, accounting for 38 products, have earned PCMH Prevalidation. Three organizations have earned NCQA Prevalidation for PCSP: athenahealth, Inc., eClinicalWorks and Glenwood Systems, Inc.
