Educational training for front desk staff and registration to increase competence and confidence in discussing, reviewing, and completing patient demographic data at the time of patient updates and registration.  
 
During this session we will also cover related PCMH standards and guidelines, e.g., KM (Competency B: Patient Diversity), KM 09 (Core) A-E, and KM 10 (Core). 
 

What You Will Learn

•    Recognize race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, income, and language as part of registration and patient interaction. 
•    Increase competency in completion of race, ethnicity, language (REL), sexual orientation or gender identity (SOGI), and income at patient check-in. 
•    Increase comfort and capacity for front desk interactions when asking REL, SOGI, and income questions.

Alex Keuroghlian

Alex Keuroghlian, MD, MPH

Alex Keuroghlian, MD, MPH (any pronouns) is Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School (HMS); Director, Division of Education and Training at The Fenway Institute; and Director and Michele and Howard J Kessler Chair, Division of Public and Community Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). They are principal investigator of the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center at The Fenway Institute, a HRSA BPHC-funded cooperative agreement to improve care for LGBTQIA+ people across the U.S., as well as the HRSA HAB-funded 2iS Coordinating Center for Technical Assistance, which implements interventions nationally for people with HIV. Dr. Keuroghlian established the MGH Psychiatry Gender Identity Program and is clerkship director for two senior electives in sexual and gender minority health at HMS. He also co-directs the HMS Sexual and Gender Minority Health Equity Initiative, which leads longitudinal medical curriculum and faculty development in LGBTQIA+ health.  

 

Jess Tomko, PCMH CCE

Jess Tomko (she/hers) is a Manager of Recognition Policy at NCQA. Her responsibilities include the creation and maintenance of PCMH resources and providing support to practices going through transformation or annual review. 
Prior to NCQA, Jess spent over 13 years in healthcare administration, where she successfully led primary care, specialty, and surgical practices under the direction of  various stakeholders (private practice, community health systems, private equity, etc.). She effectively led practice transformations, strategic planning, M&A’s, compliance integrations, and quality initiatives throughout her roles. Jess also has extensive experience with various EHR’s, HIT and data reporting. Jess’s professional interests include healthcare operations, compliance, and quality improvement. She has a particular interest in health equity and practice burnout.
Jess earned her B.S. from George Mason University and has been an NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Certified Content Expert (PCMH CCE) since 2023.
