NCQA Announces Inaugural Participants in AI Governance Working Group

Participants in AI Working Group announced

July 10, 2025

Washington, DC — The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is proud to announce the participants in its newly formed AI Stakeholder Working Group, a convening of more than 30 health care organizations committed to exploring standards for responsible governance of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care.

The Working Group officially launched with an online kickoff meeting on June 25, 2025, convening representatives from health plans, health systems and AI solution vendors. The participants will continue to collaborate with NCQA to drive industry consensus around using AI in responsible and effective ways to drive quality and safety in health care operations and clinical care.

Working Group Goals

The AI Stakeholder Working Group is part of NCQA’s broader effort to build a shared accountability and monitoring model that promotes the safe, ethical and effective use of AI in health care. Over the next several months, participants will:

  • Share real-world insights on how AI tools are deployed and monitored in health care operations and clinical delivery.
  • Help NCQA identify criteria to evaluate responsible AI use and governance across the AI implementation lifecycle.
  • Support the creation of a pilot program to review proposed monitoring standards for shared accountability, effectiveness and feasibility.

This effort builds on NCQA’s 35-year legacy of developing trusted health care standards and quality measurement tools, including HEDIS® and Health Plan Accreditation. The new AI initiative extends that commitment into the emerging frontier of artificial intelligence.
