Apply to Join NCQA’s Working Group on AI in Health Care

The rapid expansion of AI in health care brings both promise and risk. As these technologies become embedded in clinical and operational decision making, the industry faces pressure to ensure that AI is appropriate for the level of risk, and that it is adopted in ways that improve care and outcomes.

NCQA is exploring how to apply our expertise in measurement and evaluation to encourage health care organizations to use AI in ways that build trust and improve quality.

About NCQA’s AI Working Group

NCQA is convening a cross-sector AI Working Group and is seeking participation from health care organizations across the ecosystem—payers, providers, health IT vendors and other stakeholders—to inform and shape best practices for the use of AI in health care. Participants will join a series of meetings, facilitated by NCQA experts, to examine how AI is being applied today and where its use is heading.

Key discussion topics will include:

• Guidance and consensus on risk-based governance (i.e., likelihood and severity of adverse outcomes for patient safety and quality).
• Framework and systems for transparency after deployment of high-risk AI-assisted systems.
• Effective controls needed to mitigate AI usage risk.
• Maturity modeling and roadmap of AI implementation.
• Applicability and level of difficulty of proposed AI governance standards.
• Methods of providing evidence of compliance with proposed standards.

In addition to examining health care-specific AI use cases, the Working Group will explore specific topics of interest to NCQA, including HIPAA compliance, data protection, bias, patient safety and trust.

Applicants must provide information about their organization’s AI solution, relevant experience and key personnel.
