The percentage of persons 16–24 years of age who were recommended for routine chlamydia screening, were identified as sexually active and had at least one test for chlamydia during the measurement period.
Why It Matters
Chlamydia trachomatis is among the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the United States. Chlamydia screening is essential because most cisgender women and persons assigned female at birth who have the condition do not experience symptoms. The main objective of chlamydia screening is to prevent pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility and ectopic pregnancy, all of which have very high rates of occurrence among cisgender women and persons assigned female at birth with untreated chlamydia infection 1. The specifications for this measure are consistent with USPSTF clinical guidelines and guidelines for care among transgender and gender-diverse populations 2 3 4.
