Special Report on MY 2020 Reporting Results for HEDIS® Measures Leveraging Electronic Clinical Data

NCQA is pleased to announce the publication of a special report - Reporting Results for Measures Leveraging Electronic Clinical Data for HEDIS® - which summarizes HEDIS reporting results for eight measures that use the Electronic Clinical Data Systems (ECDS) reporting standard. The report highlights reporting trends over the last three years, as well as the latest performance results across these measures.

Key findings:

· For most measures, there was a large increase in reportable submissions for measurement year 2020 compared to previous years.

· There was an increase in the contributions of non-claims data sources (i.e., EHR, HIE/registry and case management data) for numerator reporting, particularly for the immunization measures.

· Plans that used at least some data beyond claims typically had better performance than plans that only used claims data.

Fern McCree, Senior Research Associate, NCQA

Fern McCree, MPH is a Senior Research Associate in the Performance Measurement Department at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Ms. McCree is responsible for managing and coordinating research, measure development and maintenance activities of health plan level quality measures. Her work is primarily focused on behavioral health, geriatric and risk adjustment utilization. Ms. McCree also leads efforts to develop measures within the electronic clinical data system (ECDS) domain which aims to enable reporting health plan level measures using data sources that provide more accurate and timely clinical information. Ms. McCree holds a Masters of Public Health from The George Washington University and a Bachelor in Science in Public Health Administration from Temple University.
