About this On Demand Training

Safer/Competent Opioid Prescribing Education

SCOPE of Pain is a series of continuing medical education/continuing nursing education activities designed to help you safely and effectively manage patients with acute and/or chronic pain, when appropriate, with opioid analgesics. This Boston University School of Medicine program consists of:

• A 2-module cased-based online activity
• Live conferences held around the US
• Resources for use institutionally
• Supplemental, focused content to extend the knowledge built through the core curriculum

The FDA has mandated manufacturers of opioid analgesics, as part of a comprehensive Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS), to make available comprehensive prescriber education in the safe use of these medications based on the FDA curriculum known as the Opioid Analgesic REMS Education Blueprint for Health Care Providers Involved in the Treatment and Monitoring of Patients with Pain (PDF). Our curriculum covers all aspects of this blueprint and more to provide a comprehensive educational program.

Physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physician assistants, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals whose practices manage acute and chronic pain

Boston University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Boston University School of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses

Continuing Nursing Education Provider Unit, Boston University School of Medicine is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)

This Enduring Material activity, SCOPE of Pain: Safer/Competent Opioid Prescribing Education, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 2.00 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP certification begins 02/29/2020. Term of approval is for one year from this date. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification Part 2 Credit

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 2 MOC points and patient safety MOC credit in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. Aggregate and de-identified data is shared with the commercial supporters.

Note: If a Member Board has not deemed this activity for MOC approval as an accredited CME activity, this activity may count toward an ABMS Member Board’s general CME requirement (only). Please refer directly to your Member Boards’ MOC Part II Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment Program Requirements.

In order to receive credit, participants must review the activity content and complete the post-tests and evaluation for the two one-hour modules included within the activity. Participants who receive a cumulative grade of 70% or greater on the post-tests will receive credit. BOTH of the one-hour modules must be completed in order to earn your online certificate of credit. There will also be an online follow-up survey that will be distributed two months after completion of the program in order to further measure participant’s changes in knowledge and behavior.
