About WHP Accreditation

NCQA's Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation:
Demonstrating Your Program's Value

According to a recent survey conducted by the ERISA Industry Committee and the National Association of Manufacturers1, 77% of America's leading employers offer formal health & wellness programs.

And with good reason - many find that offering such programs can help reduce their firm's health care costs. The 2008 Kaiser Family Foundation/HRET Employer Health Benefits Survey found that 68% of benefits managers at large firms thought that offering wellness programs was effective in reducing health care costs.

Accordingly, a growing number of organizations provide services to employers seeking to help employees and other participants better manage their own health. By encouraging employees to make changes in their daily habits -- such as eating healthier foods or quitting smoking -- employers can improve their workforce's health and productivity.

NCQA's Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation comprehensively assesses key areas of health promotion, including how wellness programs are implemented in the workplace, how services such as coaching are provided to help participants develop skills to make healthy choices and how individual health information is properly safeguarded.

What's more, NCQA's standardized measures allow employers and others who contract with organizations that provide health promotion services to make informed comparisons when choosing among several vendors.
