Dr. Jerome Kassirer has been a member of the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine for more than four decades, and served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine for 20 years. His research encompassed diverse fields including acid-base balance, medical decision-making, and cognitive science.
Dr. Kassirer has served as a governor and regent of the American College of Physicians, chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and from 1991 to 1999, as Editor-in-Chief of the New England Journal of Medicine. He is the recipient of numerous awards and several honorary degrees. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the Association of American Physicians, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Distinguished Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kassirer has written extensively about health care, for-profit medicine, and financial conflict of interest, and is the author of the current Oxford University Press book, “On The Take: How Medicine’s Complicity with Big Business Can Endanger Your Health.”
