This free on-line continuing education program is designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, certified diabetes educators and others involved in the care and management of diabetic patients.
The purpose of this program is to raise awareness of the vital role of quality measurement as a tool for improving the care provided by front-line diabetes practitioners.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:
- State a high-level description of diabetes care, performance measurement and quality improvement
- Describe several quality assessment tools focused on diabetes care
- Explain barriers and provide potential solutions to improving care within the primary care practice setting
- Use practice-based intervention tools to remind the practice and patient of the importance of managing underlying risk factors
- Discuss incentives for practitioners
Continuing Education
Physicians
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (AACME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The National Committee for Quality Assurance designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The American Osteopathic Association's Council on CME approved this activity for one hour of AOA Category 2-B credit. The credit for this activity will be available for one year.
This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 1.25 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP accreditation begins 5/1/07. Term of approval is for one year from this date, with the option of yearly renewal.
Nurses, Dietitians and Pharmacists
Accreditation
For Nurses:
The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, and the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP#10977). This program provides 1.25 contact hours of continuing education credit.
For Dieticians:
The American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) from June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2009. Registered dieticians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 1.25 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.
For Pharmacists:
The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.25 contact hours (0.125 CEU’s) of continuing education credit.
