WOODY WILLIAMS, GENERAL MOTORS’ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH CARE INITIATIVES, JOINS NCQA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
New Board member represents nation's largest private purchaser of health insurance
WASHINGTON—The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced today that L.L. “Woody” Williams, Executive Director of Health Care Initiatives at General Motors, has recently joined its Board of Directors. NCQA’s board is comprised of sixteen opinion leaders in health care, representing employers, consumer and labor interests, health plans, quality experts, regulators, and representatives from organized medicine.
Mr. Williams has served in his current position at GM since August 2001. He is responsible for all activities related to GM’s health care initiatives. In particular, Mr. Williams leads initiatives to help improve the quality and contain the cost of health care for General Motors’ 1.1 million employees, retirees, and their family members.
"GM is a model purchaser of health care – it looks at value, works to improve quality and asks tough questions," said NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane. "Woody has helped define that approach and he’s ideally suited to encouraging other purchasers of care to do the same. We’re delighted to welcome him to the board."
“Health care is one of GM’s largest and most important investments,” said Williams. “That’s why there’s an extraordinary premium today on measuring health care quality. I’m excited to help NCQA expand and refine its initiatives in measuring health care quality and value.”
Mr. Williams joined General Motors in 1970 and has held a series of positions in the Worldwide Purchasing Department. Most recently, he served as executive director of Worldwide Purchasing, Production Control and Logistics at General Motors Asia Pacific for approximately four years. In 1994, he served as executive director of Purchasing, Machinery and Indirect Equipment located in Warren, Michigan. Previously, Mr. Williams was the director of chemical purchasing for GM’s Allied Components Group (now Delphi Automotive Systems).
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.
