NCQA Releases White Paper Emphasizing Value for State Insurance Exchanges
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has released a white paper, Building State Exchanges to Get Better Value, focusing on how states can build Exchanges that not only expand coverage but also promote better value health care.
The paper discusses how states should build health insurance Exchanges to promote competition based on value, not just on premiums. To do this, Exchanges need to help consumers understand plan value and make it easy for them to find and choose high-value plans—which will result in better health outcomes and healthier people at lower costs.
“NCQA believes there are many things that states can do to build Exchanges that promote quality and value,” explains Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA President. “Exchanges have great potential for extending affordable health care coverage while improving quality and helping people get value for the dollar.”
