National Committee for Quality Assurance and Pfizer Inc Publish Strategies to Improve Health Care Quality Through Patient Engagement

Eighth edition of Quality Profiles™: The Leadership Series highlights how to improve care by communicating and collaborating with patients 
 
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in collaboration with Pfizer Inc, the world’s largest biopharmaceutical company, today released a new publication providing practical examples of how patient engagement can help improve health care quality and value.
 
Patient engagement is the cooperation among health care practitioners, health care administrators and patients to improve and maintain patients’ health. This includes helping patients understand and manage chronic conditions and prepare for expected health events, such as childbirth.
 
Quality Profiles: The Leadership Series—Focus on Patient Engagement offers a comprehensive, incisive analysis of how patient engagement can advance the quality of care. 
 
“Engaged patients, together with supportive practitioners and health plans, can create breakthrough improvements in health care delivery,” said NCQA President Margaret E. NCQA and Pfizer developed the eighth edition of Quality Profiles: The Leadership Series to help health care organizations, health plans, medical groups, employers, hospitals, practitioners, consumer advocates and other stakeholders use engagement initiatives to achieve strategic goals.
