DR. LEN M. NICHOLS OF GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY JOINS NCQA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The newest member of the National Committee for Quality Assurance Board of Directors is Len M. Nichols, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics at George Mason University. Dr. Nichols was elected to this unpaid position at the June 17, 2010 Board of Directors meeting. His tenure will last through December 31, 2010.
With over 17 years of experience in health policy and development, Dr. Nichols provides a unique perspective to health care reform. He frequently testifies before Congress and provides technical expertise to governors, state legislators and other policy officials. Dr, Nichols provides expertise for articles appearing in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, National Journal, Wall Street Journal, Time and Newsweek magazines. Dr. Nichols has also appeared on radio and TV shows such as National Public Radio, Lerher News Hour, British Broadcasting Service, NBC Nightly News, ABC News Tonight, and CBS Evening News.
“Dr. Nichols is an impartial and knowledgeable health reform analyst who has consistently sought to add moral arguments to a national health policy debate that can become technical and distorted,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “He helps us keep sight of why health reform is so important to our country. I’m looking forward to his contributions as a Board member.”
In his current role at George Mason, Dr. Nichols bridges the world of health economics and health services research for not only government officials, but also for clinical leaders and journalists. Previously, Dr. Nichols was the Director of the Health Policy Program at the New America Foundation, a non-profit, non-partisan policy research institute based in Washington, D.C.
