Network Engineer

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), whose mission is to improve the quality of health care, is seeking a Network Engineer.

Job Description:

The Network Engineer will support the organization’s networked information systems and related equipment.  This position performs upgrades and maintenance on all network systems.  He or she will also be responsible for participating in the design, deployment and maintenance of network systems, web services, servers, workstations, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, routers, etc.  He or she will be cross-trained to support most other IT Operations services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This person will work closely with and support network administration and help desk staff and act as escalation support for help desk issues.  He or she will participate in all system-related design and deployment projects, including software and back-office system upgrades, management system implementations, etc.  This person is also responsible for assisting senior-level technical staff with planning initiatives, and identifying long-term effects of changes, upgrade paths, and other technical plans.

Moreover, this person will maintain organizational security safeguards, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, integrity systems, anti-virus management and others under the direction of senior-level engineering staff and/or the Director, IT Operations.

In addition, this person will be responsible for general network architecture and administration, including WAN connectivity between sites to include router configuration/maintenance, coordination with the communication company for installs and turn-ups, DNS zone management and administration, TCP/IP configuration, etc.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with 5 years of professional experience; or two years of trade school, or associate degree in MIS or related discipline with 7-10 years professional experience. Formal network training (i.e. MCSE)

Education:

Typical minimum experience is 5 or more years of documented systems administration/engineering experience in the area of design, installation and/or test of scalable and distributed systems.
