A 20th Anniversary celebration of NCQA's two decades improving health care quality.

A salute to today's leaders bringing better care to all Americans.

The NCQA Health Quality Awards recognize leaders and innovators who have worked to improved health care quality by one or more of the following:

  • Improving the management or delivery of health care to make the system more effective, efficient and compassionate
  • Advancing health care quality through public policy
  • Conducting research or analysis that improves the health care system
  • Developing public education campaigns to promote awareness of critical health issues

Featuring a special keynote address by 2007 Health Quality Award recipient, The Honorable Kathleen Sebelius,
Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services

 Honoring

Karen Davis

Karen Davis, President, The Commonwealth Fund - The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation that promotes access, quality and efficiency in health care, particularly for society's most vulnerable. Through its own work and the work of its grantees, The Commonwealth Fund has helped spark health care innovations such as pay for performance, the Patient-Centered Medical Home and integrated care delivery systems.

James Douglas

Gov. Jim Douglas, (R-VT) - Governor Douglas has transformed health care in Vermont through his Blueprint for Health and more than 60 related reforms.  The success expanding care, improving quality and containing costs are reasons the Blueprint for Health has helped shape the National Governors Association’s recommendations for national health care reform.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Community Organizations, the Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum and the Louisiana Public Health Institute are honored collectively for their collaboration in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to develop and implement a community-based care network focused on primary care and integrated behavioral health in New Orleans.

 Peter Pronovost
Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, Johns Hopkins University - Dr. Pronovost is a noted leader in combating line infection, a common and often deadly complication in medical procedures.  In recognition of his lifesaving work, Time magazine named him one of the world's most influential people in 2008.  He is also the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant."

Edward RendellGov. Edward Rendell, (D-PA) - Governor Rendell’s “Prescription for Pennsylvania” is a multi-pronged effort designed to improve the health care of all Pennsylvanians, make the health care system more efficient and contain costs.  Pennsylvania has the most Patient-Centered Medical Home projects in the nation, a key indicator of health care innovation and an outcome of the Governor’s many reforms.

With Master of Ceremonies

A Note from the President

In 2010, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) will celebrate our 20th anniversary as the nation’s leading evaluator of health care quality and efficiency. We will kick things off with NCQA’s annual Health Quality Awards dinner in Washington D.C. on March 23rd, and continue throughout the year.  I hope you will join us as we celebrate our accomplishments and recognize the hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals and organizations who have made them possible.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of the last 20 years, NCQA does not plan to rest on its laurels. Today’s American health care system remains too costly, too inefficient and far too uneven in the delivery of quality care. There is much we need to do and the time to begin that work is now.
