NEW NCQA GUIDE HELPS PRACTICES ACHIEVE MEDICAL HOME RECOGNITION
WASHINGTON – Physician practices interested in earning medical home recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) now have a new tool to help them understand the recognition requirements. NCQA recently released a companion guide that seeks to aid practices in their goal of achieving Recognition through NCQA’s Physician Practice Connections® – Patient Centered Medical Home™ (PPC-PCMH) program. The guide, created with support from Pfizer Inc, provides summaries of the PCMH standards and examples from physician practices.
Designed for practices looking for clarity on a specific standard, the guide explains each standard and element essential to achieving recognition. Users of the guide can view charts, evaluations, spreadsheets, screen shots and other types of data to see how other practices met the requirements.
“The educational materials provide practices with a snapshot of the standards and practical examples of how currently recognized practices satisfy specific requirements,” said Patricia Barrett, Vice President, Product Development. “The materials will be a valuable tool for practices striving to achieve Recognition by NCQA.”
Launched in 2008, the PPC-PCMH program is designed to assess how medical practices are functioning as patient-centered medical homes. The program emphasizes the systematic use of patient-centered, coordinated care management processes and is aligned with the joint principles of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians and the American Osteopathic Association. To date, more than 150 practices have been recognized by NCQA as medical homes.
