Flu Vaccinations

These HEDIS Measures

These survey measures assess reporting of flu vaccinations for two different age groups:

  • Flu Vaccinations for Adults Ages 18–64: The percentage of adults 18–64 years of age in commercial and Medicaid plans who report receiving an influenza vaccination between July 1 of the measurement year and the date when the commercial CAHPS 5.0H survey was completed.
  • Flu Vaccinations for Adults Ages 65 and Older: The percentage of Medicare beneficiaries 65 years of age and older who report receiving an influenza vaccination between July 1 of the measurement year and the date when the Medicare CAHPS survey was completed.

So What?

Influenza (flu) is a common and contagious respiratory illness caused by a set of viruses that can result in serious complications or death.1 The best protection against flu is to get the annual flu vaccine. The flu vaccine is recommended for all adults and vaccinations can reduce flu-related hospitalizations by 71 percent.2,3
